Hali Gardella is a director who has worked professionally across film, television, and advertising. Her work, both narrative and documentary, is colorful and playful; rooted in present and emerging culture.
Interested in filmmaking from a young age, she got her industry start working in costume departments on large scale commercials, and then became director’s assistant to one of her filmmaking idols, Spike Jonze. She worked with Jonze on several projects, including the Academy Award winning film Her and the much-lauded Kenzo World perfume commercial. During those years, she was influenced by working with incredible artists, and simultaneously continued directing her own films & music videos.
In 2016, she began working at VICELAND's experimental TV department, VICE Labs, where she wrote, directed, and produced original video pieces for the channel. She has served as field producer on multiple docu-comedy series at VICELAND, including F*ck That’s Delicious, Traveling the Stars: Action Bronson & Friends Watch Ancient Aliens, and A Quiz Show.
